TACOMA, WA -- Both WPFC ’96 squads were crowned champions of the 2008 Rainier Challenge Tournament. The White team won the Copa Division and the ’96 Black team won the Samba Division at last weekend’s tournament. In bracket play, the White team scored 12 goals and gave up just 5 with victories against NWN, EFC Blue and ECFC White. Their opening game loss to FPSC Fury (0-3) was avenged when the two teams met again in the finals with WPFC' 96 White winning (2-0).
Team scoring was led by Evan (5), Jaylon (2), Luke (2), William (2), and Isaiah. The squad’s outstanding defensive efforts lead by: Alex, Adrian, Gavin, Grant, Mark and Tanner.
In the Samba Division, the ‘96 Black team scored 15 goals and gave up just 1 in bracket play against EFC White, GRFC Blue, Salmon Creek Juventus, and ECFC Green. The Final against Eastside Red was a battle to the end. With a score of 2-0, WPFC ’96 Black earned the victory. Congratulations Coach Abdella Hussen & Coach Ralph Black, and all the U-12 boys on both squads.
