Starfire Sports' Labor Day Cup Recap by WPFC '96 Staff Reporter AUGUST 31, 2008
TUKWILA, WA -- After winning two of their last three tournaments Premier entered the Starfire Labor Day Tournament full of confidence and in great form. However, after an uncanny slow start and a lack of defensive focus at times during the first contest of the tournament the squad had to scratch "tooth and nail" to claw out a tie 2-2 against Westside. Forcing them to match Westside output for the next two games.
Game 2 Westside United Black vs. Synergy 96 Maletich - Westside won 7-0. Premier needing a shout out to keep page blanked the Wenatchee Fire 3-0.
Game 3 Westside United Black vs. Wenatchee Fire - Westside won 6-0. Premier needing a second shout out to keep pace fell short only beating the Wenatchee Fire 7-1. Thus giving Westside United Black 25 points to Premier's 24 and allowing them to play for the Labor Day Cup Championship.
The result wasn't good, but we were unlucky, even though we are not blameless. In any case no one can say we didn't have a good tournament run and did not give our all. We have to continue to improve defensively as a whole. We have an incredible coach and number of talented players, we will recover. If it were a boxing match we would have made more points but unfortunately only the goals count. We will have time to continue to improve our tactics and form, I am confident, without a doubt we will excel in the upcoming Player Development League (PDL) season.
