Crossfire Challenge Championship - Game 5 Recap by WPFC '96 Staff Reporter JUNE 21, 2009
TACOMA, WA -- Premier ended their successful run through the Crossfire Challenge with a disappointing 1-1 draw and eventual loss on pks (2-1) to Eastside in the silver bracket on Monday, July 20th.
Eastside took the lead early in the game , when one of their Forwards got between Grant and Jaylon and headed a dribbling cross cross past a helpless Tanner.
Premier went in a goal down at the break and almost found themselves two behind three minutes into the second half, when Tanner was forced into a decent save to out an ESC's stinging half-volley.
Both teams had chances after that in an entertaining second period, but Eastside looked set to hold out for a narrow win as full-time approached.
Iceman had the final say, though.
Ben ran onto Tristan's intelligent through-ball, controlled with his chest and lashed an unstoppable drive past Eastside keeper in the 59th minute to lift the Premier Fire to a 1-1 tie with Eastside '96 White on Monday afternoon... only if the story ended there.
WPFC lost in penalty kicks by a score of 2-1 in The Championship match of the Crossfire Challenge. Eastside controlled the first half, winning nearly every contested ball. After halftime, Premier was the team in charge. The WPFC had seven shots on goal in the second half after they didn't record any in the first half.
Score at fulltime: Premier - 1, EFC '96 White - 1
