WSYSA State Challenger Cup Tournament | Championship | Game 7 Recap
by WPFC '96 Staff Reporter
APRIL 11, 2010

PUYALLUP, WA -- "I just wanted to take a moment to congratulate the boys on winning a heart-stopping final this afternoon at Starfire. This club has produced many championship teams over the years, but I can’t think of any that were more deserving than the mighty 96 White. I also wanted to thank all of you for making the sacrifices necessary to put the boys in a position to win their title today. This is a day they will remember for a long time, said WPFC President Charlie Dent." What impressed me most about the boys today was the way they battled throughout the match and kept their focus and composure. Our back line led by kepper Tanner Premo was a fortress, and everyone put a foot in when needed. We were under siege for long stretches of the game, but they weathered the storm, and Tanner Stepp provided the moment of magic that they needed to secure the win.

This is Coach Abdella Hussen’s first state title in only his second year of coaching. Since he and Assistant Coach Greg Premo took over ’96 White they have compiled a 56-17-15 record (.722 winning pct) over the past two seasons, but also our 5 tournament championships, 1 tournament finalist, and 2 tournament semi-finalist. "We have battled all season and had to overcome serious injuries in the second half of our season to two of our best defensive players. However, there is no ego on this team the boys sacrificed to make it through; no matter what I asked of them they always came through. This state title is not only for the club, players, and staff, but also our rabid fan base made up of family and friends who always travel in numbers no matter where we play, exclaimed Abdella.

The team will be taking a total of 17 players to the Region IV President's Cup in Medford, OR June 16 - 20, 2010.
